Love New Artists

I had the pleasure of seeing (hearing) Greg Holden open for Ingrid Michaelson and her band extraordinaire. As an opening act he was able to immediately engage the audience with his tunes and with his soft spoken, witty, charming banter. His songs are lovely compositions that linger on and though all original, the tunes seem familiar. They're easy to listen and sing along to. Check Greg Holden out!

Kate McGarrigle

Kate McGarrigleKate McGarrigle via last.fm

Thirty years ago I listened to the Mcgarrigle Sisters sing pure harmonies and original tunes that were fascinating. Then Linda Ronstadt recorded Anna Mcgarrigle's Heart Like A Wheel, and Loudon Wainwright III married Kate, and the rest is Wikipedia history. Listening to the harmonies of the two sisters and Kate's two children on this classic song raises goosebumps on my arms. Miley Wears Her Heart… Around Her Neck - OK! Magazine - The First for Celebrity News NOT about Miley

It's funny how you start blogging about one thing, and then, oops, there's an article that mentions Justin
Trantor who is the lead singer of the band Semi Precious Weapons. The show that he puts on will one day be in Vegas,
or somewhere...he performs some outrageous moves on the stage during his shows, and inspires others to engage
in, um, let's just say "R" rated audience participation.
His lyrics are clever, his band gives it their show biz best, they're a large part of the show.
Long story short...Justin designs beautiful jewelry. He sells low end that you can find on the Internet and high end that sells in Barney's NY, uh huh.
This man is a worker and is always beautifully coiffed. Maybe he's a tad controversial looking, but he deserves any and all success; plus he's a nice guy who loves to party!

Who is this guy? - No Depression

Who is this guy? - No Depression Aaron Lee Tasjan

I've been aware of Aaron Lee Tasjan and his music for the past year or more through myspace. I've been to a few of his shows and I have a couple of his original tunes on my ipod. Every time his song, "My Camera" pops up I smile knowing he is, alphabetically, number one out of thousands of musicians on my ipod; his song continues to hold up and keeps getting better and better upon each listen.
He writes, he plays and plays and plays..and does it looking like he's having a ball and as easy as riding a bike. He has started a "super group" named the Madison Square Gardeners; they've been playing a regular Monday night gig at The National Underground, on the lower east side of Manhattan.
Since he and his band mates play late at night (his regular Monday night gig begins at 11 ish...)
those of us who have day jobs have to keep our eyes open for 8 o'clock gigs.

I'm glad that this No Depression blogger picked up on this phenom. I know Aaron looks young, but 23!
He seems like an old soul.

Also, I stole his ~vibes~ signature, way cool.

Guitar Noise - Learn how to Play Guitar

Guitar Noise - Learn how to Play Guitar

Tune up the old gittar "and play, and play; play that rock and roll for me"...while you're brushing up on the old songs try some new classics written by Ben Kweller. Since I swiped a line from one of his many thoughtful and catchy songs, I'll use it as chance for me to push some Kweller onto people and to post a really cool Cd cover; love his tunes. I searched this site, no Kweller, o well , if interested...go to mighty YouTube..

Relix -The Magazine For Music - Wilco, Keyspan Park, Brooklyn, NY 7/13/09

Relix -The Magazine For Music - Wilco, Keyspan Park, Brooklyn, NY 7/13/09

I was in attendance, front and center, it was one of the sweetest concert nights ever, ever, ever...

Jeff Tweedy and his band of magical musicians on a summer night in Coney Island, Brooklyn, surrounded by mellow, fellow Wilco

lovers was like being in a dream. Nels Cline's leads always so intricate, with the rest of the band keeping up, the crowd eating

it up. I hope that I never forget this night.

P.S. Mr. Tweedy was hanging off the monitors singing straight to me that night, I'll post the pic I took to prove it!

MySpace.com Blogs - Rhett Miller MySpace Blog

MySpace.com Blogs - Rhett Miller MySpace Blog click on Rhett's face, that will bring you to his myspace and you can listen to some of his solo work.

For the past 10 years or so, Rhett Miller, and the rest of the Old 97's have been my go to band; when I wanted to sing at the top of my lungs, or when I danced around the room (like in the ipod ads),or walked around the room and kicked things, the Old 97's have been in the background.
With that in my mind this is my first blog about the band. I cannot say everything I feel about their music in one blog...
The above link features Rhett Miller singing his latest single from his current Cd entitled, Rhett Miller.
The band's newest Cd is entitled, Blame it on Gravity, it's excellent, more about that later.

allie-moss-dig-with-me

This blog entry focuses on Allie Moss.
Instead of struggling to write about what a wonderful musician Allie is, I decided to copy and paste a few of her tunes. I will add this,
her voice and her harmonies are unparalleled by anyone around these days.
Her original songs and guitar playing are accomplished. I like that at such a young age
Allie writes and sings about age old sentiments. Her song, "Days I Regret" always makes me cry (in a good way).
Seeing Allie perform her own material live is a special thing.
She is a perfectionist, and is always working toward improving her craft. A true artist, and a humanitarian...hard to top
a talent that is Allie Moss.

Ingrid Michaelson, if you don't know her name, you should.
This lady writes, plays and performs tunes that make you think. Some of her lyrics can bring tears to one's eyes. However, some of her tunes are hilariously funny, and her stage presence will make you want to attend every one of her shows.
Ingrid has over a million and a half hits on my space, so she doesn't need my rave review, but yes, she does, cause she's assembled a band of musicians who all have wonderful songs and Cd's that you should lend an ear to! So today is Ingrid day. Click on her many wonderful performances. The one that I've chosen is her tongue in cheek version of her tune..."Take Me the Way I Am."
Oh, the fine folks in LA are hip to her, and have used some of her serious songs on Grey's Anatomy; so you may have heard her songs, but didn't know who was making such heavenly sounds.
She was raised on Staten Island. Yes folks, genius can flourish on "the rock."

Musical Intentions

I intend to introduce new and exciting music and musicians, but you have to do your part.
Easy.
This just means that I may suggest you click on YouTube link.
Let's start with Roger Ridley. This video will help explain what I would ultimately love this blog to do...transform lives by exposing you to new art and artists.

Is It Just Me

or has anyone else noticed a plethora of young musicians who write, sing, play and perform their own awesome creations.
Through this blog, I would like to introduce some of the musicians that are baring their souls day after day, night after night.

Follow me, we'll find the music that you can't hear on the radio.
